What recent auctions show
The clearest public evidence is Mazad’s first live-streamed auction of 20 plates, reported in April 2026. Car number 699999 sold for BD 140,000, the highest price. Other 69-series numbers followed: 690000 for BD 127,000 and 696969 for BD 85,000. Truck number 111111 sold for BD 51,300, and motorcycle number 44444 for BD 14,200.
Distinctive and semi-distinctive numbers are sold under an Interior Ministry procedures guide, by public auction, electronic auction or direct sale. These are top-end results for rare numbers, not what a typical plate sells for.
Fewer digits
Digit count is the first thing buyers compare. Mazad’s auction for the three-digit plate 994 opened at BD 100,000 and closed on 31 March 2026; we did not find a published final price. Earlier three-digit auctions (796, 186 and 257) required security deposits of BD 15,000 per auction, and Mazad described demand as strong. By contrast, an auction of six-digit 600000-series numbers listed a starting bid of BD 100.
Patterns buyers recognise
The three highest prices at that auction went to numbers with an obvious pattern: nearly all the same digit (699999), a round number (690000) and repeated pairs (696969). The truck and motorcycle sales in the results were also single repeated digits (111111 and 44444). This does not prove that the pattern alone sets the price, but it shows what buyers competed for.
The PLATES calculator recognises pattern types including solid repeats (5555), sequences (1234), palindromes (12321), repeated pairs (1212), numbers with a repeated run of digits, numbers that are almost all one digit, and numbers whose first and last digits match.
Category matters
Car, truck and motorcycle numbers are sold in separate series, each with its own price level. The same auction offered the 69 series for private cars, the 11 series for private trucks and buses, and the 44 series for motorcycles. Compare a plate only with others of the same category and digit count.
Personal value
A buyer may value a number for personal reasons that no calculator can measure. That is why two similar plates can sell for different prices, and why a pattern is a reason a buyer might pay more, not a guaranteed premium.
Check the price yourself
Use the PLATES calculator to compare recent reference prices for the same category, digit count and a similar pattern. It shows a range, keeps asking prices separate from reported sales, and is not an official valuation. Remember that buying a number from another person also involves the BD 100 official fee, described in our transfer guide. Last reviewed 14 October 2026.
